Recovery is a very important tool when considering to exercise. It is utilised in elite sports but can also be beneficial for anyone who decides to start living a more active life. When exercising, tiny tears occur in your muscle fibres, leading to a reaction known as inflammation. Inflammation is the body's natural healing process which helps repair the injured cells. The soreness you feel after exercise, including the following day, is known as delayed onset of muscle soreness (DOMS).

Massage (performed by a Remedial Massage Therapist or Clinical Myotherapist) is aimed to enhance recovery and to help athletes improve athletic performance. Massage has been found to:

  • Break down scar tissue and adhesions

  • Alleviate DOMS

  • Relieve stress

  • Reduce nerve irritation

  • Reduce swelling

  • Stimulate circulation

  • Ease cramps and muscle spasms

  • Decrease lactic acid build up
