Children and Adolescents

Children are not just little adults and must be treated differently when it comes to injuries of the muscles, bones and joints. In the growing body the bones have centres of cartilaginous tissue from which bones grow. These are found near the ends of all the long bones in the body, until they seal over with bone and growing stops. These are areas of potential weakness in the growing body and combined with the elasticity of the ligaments in children’s bodies, mean a simple ankle sprain could in fact have damaged the growth plate.

Exercise is a vital thing for all children. It is vital for their growth, health and general wellbeing. Sport is an excellent way of providing exercise and it is becoming more important for children every day.

If injury or pain prevents someone form being able to exercise, it can have serious side effects on that individual for many years. Correct assessment, diagnosis and treatment of sports injuries and pain in children can make a significant improvement very rapidly, and help get our kids back to sport quickly.
